Choosing your profile photos
Your photos are what people look at first. This is our own advice on choosing a set that is clear, current and honest.
What to use
- A first photo where your face is clear, in good light, with no sunglasses.
- Recent photos that look like you do now.
- At least one full-length photo.
- One or two photos of you doing something you enjoy.
- Photos where you are easy to tell apart from anyone else in the picture.
What to leave out
- Heavily filtered or edited photos.
- Group photos as your first picture.
- Photos that show your home address, car plate, workplace badge or your children.
- Photos of other people who have not agreed to be on your profile.
Use the app’s verification
Many apps offer photo or profile verification. Using it shows matches your photos are really you; each app’s page on this site lists the safety features it offers.
